Engineer - Metallurgical

We are seeking an individual who can provide various metallurgical services to the company’s manufacturing facilities.  Develop, refine, and/or approve processing standards and raw material specifications, provide technical assistance to Operating Management and Sales Personnel, review customer specifications for acceptance and produce ability, assist Quality Departments with problem solving and corrective action investigations, provide technical services to customers.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily or higher and in a safety conscious manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required, other requirements may be added.   

  • Provide customer service technical support as needed to address complaints, product applications, operational issues, new business opportunities, product development, etc.
  • Assist Quality Departments with corrective action investigations and root cause analysis including sample preparation, metallography and failure analysis using industry standards.
  • Develop processing for new grades or alloys (trials), review and approve process standards, streamline processes, work to reduce processing costs and act as technical liaison to all facilities. 
  • Review, approve and develop raw material specifications and / or updates.
  • Provide technical assistance to manufacturing facilities including process standardization.
  • Conduct technical training sessions in operations / locations for operating, sales and staff personnel as required.  Completes required training and development objectives within the assigned time frame to perform essential duties. Attends any training deemed necessary by the company.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, all production facilities and customers towards product improvements.
  • Establish, amend, and / or approve Quality System Procedures and Practices in support of ISO 9001:2015, AS9100:2016, and ISO 13485:2016 Quality Systems.

Education/Experience:

  • A minimum BS degree in Metallurgy/Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science ideally with an emphasis on ferrous metallurgy.   Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Five to 10 years metallurgical experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with wire drawing, stainless steels, and/or nickel alloys is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of red metals manufacturing a plus.
