Health and Safety Coordinator

Loos & Co., Inc. is looking for a Health and Safety Coordinator.

The position coordinates issues related to worker health and safety to meet the demands of the related regulations and safety agencies. Efficiently supplies workers with appropriate safety supplies, tools, and PPE.   Procurement, issuance, maintenance, reporting and organized storage of Health and Safety related products, documentation and supplies are generated by utilizing standard office/plant equipment, materials, tools and ISO/AS work instructions, assuring adherence to quality and continuous improvement standards.  Performs other duties as required but which comply with ADA. 

 Essential Job Functions

  • Develops, implements and maintains required operation procedures to ensure company and employee awareness, comprehension and adherence to approved health, and safety practices. Coordinate audits of company operations on a regular basis to ensure compliance with local, state and federal health and safety regulations. Interfaces with state or federal agencies, safety committee, OSHA, DPH and affiliated personnel as required.
  • Prepares, supplies and/or submits written recommendations to management, state and/or federal paperwork, policies and procedures, plans and SDS.
  • Develops, maintains and directs programs for issuing empty and receiving full hazardous waste containers, packaging, labeling and transporting industrial waste.
  • Coordinates fuel handling, practices, and documentation to comply with regulations governing used oil fired space heating units.
  • Obtains, selects and disperses safety supplies and PPE from various sources.
  • Resolves questions or problems related to supplies and initiates action for repair, replacement or service or refers highly unusual situations to supervisor/s for review and reconciliation. Makes and checks routine calculations, minor preparing and sorting of mail, completing forms, answering phones and the like, cross-departmental. Performs health and safety related purchasing duties including reviewing quotations for price, delivery, quality and quantity to procure assigned supplies, equipment, material, parts and services. Reviews, orders and expedites requests.
  • Support all accident/incident investigation, reporting and facilitation of Root Cause Analysis. Analyzes accident and incident reports for trends; makes recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Monitor local OSHA, DEEP, DOT, NFPA, and ISO requirements and standards along with company policies and standards to ensure compliance.
  • Maintains fire system, evacuation program and contingency program.
  • Reviews, analyzes and makes recommendations regarding workplace environment sampling for possible exposures.
  • Able to work from detailed request/instructions/requirements/ work orders, make decisions as to quality and quantity of resources needed. Able to prioritize and adhere to strict deadlines. Able to handle a multitude of tasks simultaneously.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with supervisor/s and co-workers regarding the production, procedures, issues regarding safety supplies. May prepare recommendations to modify methods or processes, relative to improved safety. Consults with and answers employee questions pertaining to safety. May assist in the hiring/orientation and acclimation of new employees.
  • Communicates with employees concerning safety issues. Communication is ongoing, clear, concise, and complete.
  • Participates in a team environment which focuses on continuous improvement strategies. Attends meetings and/or training. Coordinates and works with the Safety Committee and Human Resources to identity needs or to assist in obtaining or identifying.

  • Act as subject matter expert in the areas of occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and ergonomic compliance.
  • Lead safety processes including: Hazard analysis, Job Safety Analysis, Standard Operating Procedures, Training, Contractor Safety Requirements and programs, Management of Change, and Incident Investigation.
Education and/or Experience Required:

  • Associates' or Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment with an emphasis on health and safety and team work through continuous improvement ideology, management and leadership skills.
  • Preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certification OSHA Authorized Trainer for OSHA 10 hour or 30 hour safety courses for General Industry.
